1870 palace on the heights of Lapa, terraced gardens facing the Tagus, discreet clientele returning for decades.

“Two pools (heated indoor and outdoor in a 2-hectare garden), rare in intra-muros Lisbon.”
L'Olissippo Lapa Palace occupies an aristocratic residence of 1870 in the Lapa district, away from the tourist tumult. Access is via a palm-lined avenue, the rooms overlook the Tagus or terraced gardens planted with azulejos and bougainvilleas. The palace has kept its original stuccos, its noble wood parquet floors, its crystal chandeliers, without falling into a frozen museum. Two pools (one covered, the other outdoor), spa, gourmet restaurant: the offering justifies the rate from 452,83 € per night. Service remains attentive without being intrusive, clientele mostly European and loyal. We recommend for a minimum three-night stay, time to enjoy the garden and the view. An old-school palace that embraces its slow pace ✨
Who is it for?
Who we recommend it to
We recommend Lapa Palace to couples in their forties and above seeking calm without leaving the city, to travellers who prefer gardens to rooftops. It's an address for late honeymoons, wedding anniversaries, retreats of a few days with spa and pool. Families find their place here (family rooms available), but the atmosphere remains hushed, ill-suited to very young children.
The building
Architecture and interiors
The building dates from 1870, former aristocratic residence turned palace in the 1990s. Portuguese neoclassical architecture, ochre and white facade, interiors blending period stuccos, antique azulejos and classic furniture without excess. Rooms vary in size and view (some on the Tagus, others on the gardens), solid wood parquet, marble bathrooms. The scale remains human, 109 rooms spread over several levels, renovated period lifts.
At the table
Restaurants, bar, service
The gourmet restaurant Lapa offers contemporary Portuguese cuisine, short menu changing with the market, cellar focused on Douro and Alentejo wines. Breakfast served in the dining room or on the terrace facing the Tagus, full continental buffet with house pastries. Bar in the main salon for aperitifs, 24/7 room service. No media-savvy signature chef, but honest cuisine highlighting local produce without show.

Location & access
Where the hotel sits in Lisbon
Lapa Palace stands in the Lapa district, residential hill west of the historic centre, between the Assembly of the Republic and the Museum of Ancient Art. Quiet neighbourhood, embassies and bourgeois residences, few shops but several neighbourhood restaurants five minutes on foot. Baixa and Chiado ten minutes by taxi, airport twenty-five minutes outside traffic. No immediate metro nearby (closest station fifteen minutes' walk), but the palace offers a shuttle service and free parking. The district stirs little in the evening, ideal for sleeping soundly after a day of sightseeing.
