Canaves Epitome - Small Luxury Hotels of the World

Canaves Epitome holds the tip of Oia's caldera, where the cliff plunges into the Aegean and troglodyte suites sell for the price of a Parisian flat.

Canaves Epitome occupies a series of Cycladic houses renovated in 2019, clinging to the cliff in Oia, facing the caldera. We slept in a 45 m² suite with private pool carved from volcanic rock, teak terrace, king bed facing the sea. Interiors in white limewash, grey pumice stone, bespoke furniture in driftwood and natural linen. The 300 m² spa offers treatments using Greek products (olive oil, thyme honey), hammam hewn from the rock. Service is discreet, efficient, never intrusive. From 1 665 € per night, rate justified by the view, privacy, quality of finishes ✨

Who is it for?

Who we recommend it to

We recommend Canaves Epitome to honeymoon or anniversary couples seeking absolute privacy and happy to pay to meet no one. It's an address for wealthy thirty- and forty-somethings who prefer room service to the social scene, late rises to group excursions. Families with children will find better elsewhere, the hotel cultivates an adult and silent atmosphere.

The building

Architecture and interiors

The hotel occupies five traditional Cycladic houses renovated in 2019, arranged in tiers on the cliff. Typical Santorini troglodyte architecture: 60 cm-thick white limewash walls, barrel vaults, grey volcanic stone floors. Suites are hewn into the rock, with private teak terraces and infinity pools carved from the stone. Bespoke contemporary furniture (driftwood, linen, rattan), indirect lighting, Tinos marble bathrooms.

Breakfast served in-suite until 1pm, with Greek yoghurt and thyme honey, local feta, fresh juices. Cocktail bar open until midnight, cellar of 200 Greek and international references.
