We recommend the Adlon to travellers who want a classic palace in the heart of Berlin's history, without seeking avant-garde design. It's an address for couples on luxury city breaks, executives on business trips (plenty of meeting rooms), wealthy families visiting the Museum Island museums a quarter of an hour on foot. The clientele is international, often American and Asian, with an average age around 45-60.

Architecture and interiors
The current building dates from 1997, a faithful reconstruction of the original 1907 hotel destroyed during the Second World War. Neoclassical architecture with sandstone facade, black and white marble entrance hall, crystal chandeliers, monumental staircase. The 385 rooms and suites occupy seven floors, classic European decor with bespoke furniture, light wood panelling, Rubelli fabrics. Average room size 35 m², suites up to 200 m² with private terraces.

Three tables in the hotel: the Lorenz Adlon Esszimmer, two Michelin stars run by chef Romain Fornell, offers technical European cuisine with view of the Brandenburg Gate (closed Sunday-Monday). The Quarré for an all-day brasserie menu, generous breakfast buffet until 11am. The Lobby Lounge serves tea and cocktails in the historic hall, intimate atmosphere after 6pm. Brandenburger Tor metro station (lines U5, S1, S2) fifty metres away, Berlin-Brandenburg airport 35 km. The Mitte district concentrates embassies and institutions, very quiet in the evening despite daytime tourist flow, luxury shops on Friedrichstrasse ten minutes away.
