A six-room Renaissance palace suspended above Malá Strana, where we sleep in the former golden well of Emperor Rudolf II.
Golden Well
From
257.143 €
“Private terrace facing Prague Castle, accessible from the gastronomic restaurant, open April to October.”
Golden Well occupies a 16th-century palace pressed against the castle ramparts, six rooms only, reservations often fully booked three months in advance. We climb via steep cobbled alleys, the car stays below. The rooms mix original beams, Czech baroque furniture and white marble bathrooms, small-paned windows overlooking red-tiled roofs. The restaurant terrace offers the most spectacular view of Prague, from 257 € a night. The service remains discreet, almost invisible. We recommend room 5 for the direct view of Saint-Guy Cathedral ✨
Who is it for?
Who we recommend it to
We recommend Golden Well to couples seeking a confidential address for an anniversary or proposal, far from groups and mass tourism. The intimate scale (six rooms) suits travellers who prefer boutique hotels to anonymous palaces. History and panoramic-view enthusiasts will find their match, yet access via steep cobbled alleys rules out guests with reduced mobility.
The building
Architecture and interiors
The Golden Well takes its name from the medieval golden well dug in the courtyard, a local legend tied to Rudolf II’s alchemists. Renaissance palace restored in the 1990s, three-storey ochre façade, Czech baroque interiors with coffered ceilings and stucco. The rooms retain their original proportions, ceiling heights varying between 3.20 m and 4 m according to floor. Sourced furniture, heavy fabrics, solid oak parquet.
At the table
Restaurants, bar, service
The restaurant Terasa U Zlaté Studně occupies the panoramic terrace and two vaulted interior rooms. Contemporary Czech cuisine, short seasonal menu, cellar focused on Moravian wines. Breakfast is taken on the terrace in fine weather, continental buffet with local charcuterie and house pastries. Room service available until 22h, reduced menu after restaurant closing.
