The Art deco palace of Vancouver that survived prohibition, the 1929 crash and the gentrification of the city centre.

“Indoor pool under 1927 glass roof, with original tiling and zenithal light all day long.”
The Rosewood Hotel Georgia occupies a 1927 building on the corner of Georgia and Howe, facing the Vancouver Art Gallery. We sleep in rooms with period mouldings, oak parquet, Carrara marble bathrooms, sash windows framing the Financial District skyscrapers. The original glass-roofed pool remains the detail that justifies the booking, filtered natural light, cobalt blue tiles, teak banquettes. The Sense spa occupies 930 m² in the basement, treatment cabins with walls in Howe Sound stone. From 608 € a night, a rate that rises quickly in high season (jazz festivals in June, ski world cup in Whistler). The service is polished, discreet, never obsequious. We recommend it for a classic urban stay, without ostentation ✨
Who is it for?
Who we recommend it to
We recommend the Georgia to business travellers seeking a palace without ostentation, and to couples in their forties who prefer history to contemporary design. It is an address for urban weekends, dinners at Hawksworth after a concert at the Orpheum Theatre, returns from Whistler in winter. Families find their place here (the pool is popular with children), yet the clientele remains predominantly adult, corporate during the week, leisure at weekends.
The building
Architecture and interiors
The Rosewood Hotel Georgia occupies a twelve-storey building constructed in 1927, Georgian Art deco style, Indiana limestone façade. Interiors renovated in 2011 by Rosewood: original mouldings restored, solid oak parquet, Bohemian crystal chandeliers in the common areas. Rooms between 33 and 140 m², ceiling height 3.20 m, sash windows, Carrara marble bathrooms. The 1927 glass-roofed pool has been preserved intact, cobalt blue tiles, period metal structure.
At the table
Restaurants, bar, service
The Hawksworth Restaurant occupies the ground floor, Pacific Northwest cuisine by chef David Hawksworth (best Canadian chef 2012). Menu focused on British Columbia produce: wild salmon, Fanny Bay oysters, Fraser Valley vegetables. The 1927 Lobby Lounge serves afternoon tea, classic cocktails in the evening, bottle-green velvet banquettes, live piano at weekends. Breakfast at the restaurant or in room, 24-hour room service.
