“Compact rooms (18 to 22 m²) optimised like yacht cabins, with king-size bed and black marble bathroom.”
The Little National Hotel Sydney occupies a contemporary building on Clarence Street, two blocks from Circular Quay. We tested a standard room: 18 m² arranged with Japanese-inspired rigour, king-size bed facing an oak desk, black marble bathroom with rain-effect shower. The space is tight, but every centimetre counts: built-in storage, indirect LED lighting, USB sockets everywhere. The fitness room on the ground floor stays open 24/7, equipped with Technogym. No restaurant on site, but the neighbourhood is packed with restaurants (Quay, Aria, Rockpool within ten minutes). The Booking score (9/10 from 2 711 reviews) reflects the reliable service and impeccable cleanliness, from 188 € a night. We recommend for short stays, business or city breaks, not for honeymoons ✨
Who is it for?
Who we recommend it to
We recommend the Little National to 30-50-year-old business travellers who prioritise location and design over square footage. It's a hotel for short stays (two to three nights), CBD meetings, early departures to the airport or ferry. Couples on city breaks will make do if the room is mainly for sleeping, less so if the goal is lounging in bed until noon.
The building
Architecture and interiors
The Little National occupies a glass-and-concrete building from the 2010s, typical of Sydney CBD's architectural revival. Interiors by Australian studio Bates Smart: clean lines, black-white-oak palette, indirect LED lighting. The rooms adopt a compact layout inspired by Japanese capsule hotels, with built-in storage and bespoke furniture. Standard ceiling height (2.60 m), double-glazed windows to block Clarence Street noise.
