The St. Regis places its butler and its marble in SoMa, between start-ups and museums, without ever giving in to casual Californian.
The St. Regis San Francisco
From
915.304 €
“24/7 butler service in all rooms, a rarity in San Francisco where even palaces play the casual card.”
The St. Regis San Francisco occupies a glass and steel tower in the heart of SoMa, two blocks from the SFMOMA and the Moscone Center. We tested a room on the Third Street side: high ceilings, marble in the bathroom, impeccable bedding, but the view overlooks office buildings, not the bay. The butler service responds in less than five minutes, useful for booking a table at Saison or organising a transfer to Napa. The indoor pool remains small, more of a relaxation pool than a real swimming spot. From 915 € per night, we pay mainly for the location and the St. Regis standing, less for the architectural charm. An address for high-end business stays and lovers of impeccable service who are not looking for the Victorian picturesque of Nob Hill.
Who is it for?
Who we recommend it to
We recommend the St. Regis to business travellers who chain meetings at the Moscone Center and want a true palace to unwind, not a trendy boutique hotel. Quadra and quinquagenarian couples will appreciate the old-school service and proximity to museums, less the tech atmosphere that reigns in the neighbourhood. Families can stay here (spacious rooms, pets accepted), but the hotel remains designed for an adult clientele seeking classic standing.
The building
Architecture and interiors
The St. Regis occupies a contemporary 40-storey tower inaugurated in 2005, signed Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. Glass and black granite façade, white Carrara marble lobby with Murano crystal chandelier, monumental staircase. The rooms display an international palace style: dark wood panelling, thick carpet, neoclassical furniture, nothing specifically Californian. Correct ceiling height (2.80 m), generous bathrooms, but the whole lacks architectural personality compared to the great historic hotels of Nob Hill.
At the table
Restaurants, bar, service
The Grill offers a contemporary Californian menu at lunch and dinner, grilled steaks and fish, local products without fuss. The lobby cocktail bar serves the classic St. Regis (signature Bloody Mary) in a hushed setting, business clientele at the end of the day. Breakfast served in the room or at the restaurant, full American formula, efficient but without surprise. 24/7 room service, reduced menu after midnight.

Location & access
Where the hotel sits in San Francisco
The St. Regis stands on Third Street, right in SoMa, the neighbourhood of museums and convention centres. SFMOMA three minutes on foot, Yerba Buena Gardens just opposite, Union Square ten minutes' walk. Montgomery metro station five minutes, international airport 30 minutes by car outside traffic. The neighbourhood is lively during the day (offices, cultural tourists), calmer in the evening, with a few good restaurants (Mourad, Benu) a taxi ride away. No residential charm, but total urban efficiency.
