Set in the former Bank of Sweden on Norrmalmstorg, site of the 1973 heist that gave its name to Stockholm syndrome.

The Nobis Hotel Stockholm occupies two facing buildings on Norrmalmstorg, one Art nouveau 1903, the other brutalist 1970s. We cross a lobby in black marble and brushed brass, six-metre ceilings, Nordic light filtered through original stained glass. The 201 rooms blend whitened oak parquet, grey velvet upholstered headboards, bathrooms in Swedish limestone. The Gold Bar occupies the former vaults, concrete vaults and cognac leather banquettes. From 386 € a night, we sleep at the heart of Stockholm's golden triangle, two minutes' walk from Kungsträdgården. The clientele is half business, half leisure, intimate atmosphere without being stuffy. One of the few Swedish five-stars to fully embrace its banking heritage ✨

Who is it for?

Who we recommend it to

We recommend the Nobis to travellers seeking a design anchor without Scandinavian coldness. It's a hotel for fortysomethings on cultural weekends, couples who love architecture, Nordic businessmen fleeing international chains. Families find their place here (interconnecting rooms available), but the atmosphere remains adult, especially in the evening at the Gold Bar.

The building

Architecture and interiors

The main building, former headquarters of the Bank of Sweden, dates from 1903, Art nouveau façade in pink granite and gilded ironwork. The 1972 brutalist extension faces it, linked by an underpass beneath the square. Interiors by Claesson Koivisto Rune and Wingårdhs, blend of restored original panelling and contemporary Swedish furniture. Rooms between 22 and 65 m², some with bow windows overlooking Norrmalmstorg, others on paved interior courtyard.

At the table

Restaurants, bar, service

The Operakällaren Bakfickan restaurant offers a gastronomic brasserie menu, focus on Swedish produce: marinated herring, smoked reindeer, Arctic char. The Gold Bar serves cocktails and small plates until 1am, intimate vibe under the concrete vaults of the former strongrooms. Full Nordic breakfast buffet, gravlax salmon and house breads, served until 11am at weekends. 24/7 room service, reduced menu after midnight.
