We're far from the Passeig de Gràcia, and that's precisely the idea: a beachside address fifteen minutes by taxi from the Barri Gòtic, with rooftop pool and rooms overlooking the Mediterranean. The interiors play the classic Sofitel card, light marble, blonde wood, French design furniture without excess. Service is professional, the clientele mixes weekend couples and executives on seminars. From 410 € a night, we pay for the view and the front-of-sea location, not the historic cachet. We recommend the Skipper to travellers who want Barcelona with the beach, without giving up palace comfort. It's an address for fortysomething couples, families with teens (the pool and beach compensate for the distance from the centre), executives on seminars who enjoy the seafront after meetings. Fans of Gaudí architecture and tapas in the Gòtic will prefer to sleep in town, here we come for the Mediterranean.

The Sofitel Barcelona Skipper occupies a contemporary glass-and-white-concrete tower, built in the 2000s on the Port Olímpic seafront. The architecture is functional, without any particular signature, typical of chain beach hotels. Standard Sofitel interiors: light marble in the lobby, blonde wood panelling, discreet French design furniture. Rooms are spacious, between 30 and 50 m², with wraparound balconies and picture windows framing the sea.

The Brasserie Barceloneta restaurant offers a classic Mediterranean menu, grilled fish, paellas, Catalan produce without gastronomic pretensions. The breakfast buffet is generous, with made-to-order eggs station and local products (pa amb tomàquet, Catalan charcuterie). The rooftop bar serves cocktails and tapas in season, with panoramic views of the port and beach. Service is correct, cooking honest without being memorable, we come above all for the setting.

The Sofitel stands on the Avenida Litoral, on the Port Olímpic seafront, at the eastern end of the Barceloneta. The beach is fifty metres away, the port's fish restaurants five minutes on foot. The Barri Gòtic and Rambla are twenty minutes by taxi, the Sagrada Família twenty-five. Ciutadella Vila Olímpica metro station (line 4) is eight minutes' walk, El Prat airport thirty minutes by car. The neighbourhood is calm, residential and beach touristy, very lively in summer, deader in winter.
