The Barcelona palace that has crossed a century without losing its bourgeois allure, between Gran Via and Passeig de Gràcia.
Hotel El Palace Barcelona
From
688.2 €
“Rooftop with pool facing the modernist roofs of the Eixample, open until midnight in summer.”
Hotel El Palace Barcelona occupies a 1919 building on the Gran Via, a stone's throw from Passeig de Gràcia. We sleep in rooms with 3.5-metre ceilings, oak parquet, neoclassical furniture, white marble bathrooms. The Mayan Luxury spa unfolds over 1 000 m² in the basement, with indoor pool and treatment cabins in a dimmed ambience. The rooftop pool offers unobstructed views of the Sagrada Família and the spires of the Eixample, cocktail service until midnight. Service is well-oiled, discreet, never obsequious. From 688 € per night, we pay for the central location and the complete infrastructure of a true Catalan palace ✨
Who is it for?
Who we recommend it to
We recommend El Palace to travellers seeking a classic palace without the folklore, between two appointments or before an opera at the Liceu. It's an address for couples in their forties and fifties, businessmen on long stays, affluent families who want the comfort of a 5★ without the ostentation. Fans of contemporary design will prefer other addresses, here we come for the service and bourgeois solidity.
The building
Architecture and interiors
The building dates from 1919, built for the Ritz Barcelona hotel, renamed Palace in 2005 after renovation. Catalan neoclassical architecture, ashlar stone facade, hall with marble columns and Art Nouveau glass roof. Interiors redone in 2009, classic European palace style, dark woodwork, thick carpets, crystal chandeliers. 125 rooms and suites spread over seven floors, all different but coherent in treatment.
At the table
Restaurants, bar, service
The Caelis, gastronomic table on the ground floor, has held a Michelin star since 2010 under the direction of chef Romain Fornell, technical Mediterranean cuisine. The Bluesman serves a chic bistro menu all day, copious buffet breakfast until noon. The Mayan Bar in the basement offers cocktails and tapas in a hushed ambience, regular and resident clientele. 24/7 room service, full menu.
