A six-room contemporary art house in Roma Norte, where each room dialogues with original works.
Colima 71 - Casa de Arte Hotel
From
537.58 €
“Six rooms only, each designed as a private gallery with works by contemporary Mexican artists.”
Colima 71 occupies a 1920 neocolonial residence transformed into a habitable gallery in the heart of Roma Norte. We cross salons where paintings, sculptures and installations change every three months, according to the current exhibitions. The six rooms blend original moulded ceilings, mid-century furniture and headboards signed by local artists, natural light filtered by Art nouveau stained glass. Breakfast is taken in the inner patio under the jacarandas, attentive service without formality. From 538 € the night, the address remains confidential, often fully booked two months in advance. We recommend for an immersive stay in the Mexican artistic scene, not for the services of a classic palace. The intimacy largely compensates for the absence of spa or 24h concierge ✨
Who is it for?
Who we recommend it to
We recommend Colima 71 to collectors, gallerists and travellers who prioritise art over the range of services. It is an address for thirty-something and forty-something couples seeking cultural immersion, extended weekends between openings and chef's tables. Families with children will find the space too intimate, the clientele remains adult and discreet.
The building
Architecture and interiors
The house dates from 1920, typical neocolonial facade of the Colonia Roma with wrought iron balconies and Chiluca stone. Interiors redesigned in 2018: oak parquet floors, 3.80 m ceilings with stucco rosettes, Art nouveau stained glass in the staircases. The six rooms occupy the two floors, surfaces between 28 and 45 m², polished terrazzo bathrooms and Grohe fittings. The central patio retains its original arcades and two jacarandas planted in the 1930s.
At the table
Restaurants, bar, service
No restaurant on site, but an à la carte breakfast service served in the patio or in room until midday. Changing menus according to the market: chilaquiles, pan dulce from the panadería Rosetta, coffee from Veracruz roasted in Oaxaca. The team happily reserves at Contramar, Quintonil or Máximo Bistrot, all less than fifteen minutes away. The salon bar offers mezcals and natural Mexican wines in the late afternoon.
