The Regent reinvents the Californian palace by the Pacific, far from Hollywood glitz.

“Direct access to Santa Monica beach from the lobby, heated pool facing the ocean open until sunset.”
The Regent Santa Monica Beach occupies a contemporary building on Ocean Avenue, facing the historic pier and the Pacific. We tested an ocean-side room: floor-to-ceiling glass windows, teak terrace, clear view over the surfers and the Palisades Park palms. The interior plays Californian minimalism, sand and linen tones, Carrara white marble bathrooms, natural light everywhere. The 800 m² spa offers signature treatments with Pacific seaweed, the heated pool overlooks the beach with no visual barrier. The service remains discreet, efficient, never obsequious, which differs from Beverly Hills palaces. From 1 268 € per night, rate justified by the rare location (few 5★ hotels with feet in the sand in Los Angeles) and the Booking score of 9,6/10 on 71 reviews ✨
Who is it for?
Who we recommend it to
We recommend the Regent to travellers seeking the calm of the seaside without leaving Los Angeles, couples on a romantic getaway or fortysomethings on a wellness retreat. It is the address for Angelenos who flee the bustle of West Hollywood at the weekend, and for Europeans who want postcard California (beach, surf, sunsets) in a palace setting. Families find their place thanks to the spacious rooms and the supervised beach, yet the atmosphere remains resolutely adult and hushed.
The building
Architecture and interiors
The building dates from 2023, contemporary architecture signed Marmol Radziner, glass and white concrete façade that captures the Pacific light. Interiors by Martin Brudnizki: blond wood, limestone, natural textiles, palette inspired by the dunes and the ocean. Ceiling height of 3,20 metres in the rooms, solid teak terraces with glass railings so as not to interrupt the view. The lobby opens directly onto the beach promenade, without airlock or transition, creating a rare continuity between interior and exterior.
At the table
Restaurants, bar, service
The restaurant Orla offers a Californian menu centred on Pacific coast produce, chef Mette Williams (ex-Noma), seven-course tasting menu from 145 $. The bar Lillie's serves mezcal cocktails and Morro Bay oysters until midnight, panoramic view over the illuminated pier. Breakfast served in room or on the terrace facing the ocean, cold-pressed juices and house pastries. Room service operates 24/7, reduced menu yet careful execution.

Location & access
Where the hotel sits in Los Angeles
The Regent stands on Ocean Avenue, at the northern end of Santa Monica Beach, between the historic pier (ten-minute walk) and Palisades Park. Quiet residential neighbourhood, far from the agitation of Venice Beach to the south and Malibu to the north. Direct access to the 35 km cycle path that runs along the coast to Torrance. LAX airport twenty minutes by car outside traffic, forty minutes at peak times. The neighbourhood offers few starred restaurants (one must head back towards West Hollywood), yet the Third Street Promenade and Montana Avenue concentrate casual boutiques and tables five minutes away.
