El Fuerte Marbella

We recommend El Fuerte to families looking for a true 5★ by the sea without the bustle of Puerto Banús, and to couples in their forties who want the beach without giving up the spa. It is also an address for Marbella regulars who return every year, attached to the consistency of service and the tranquillity of the gardens. Young fashionable couples will prefer the more design addresses of the Golden Mile.

The hotel opened in 1957, pioneer of luxury tourism in Marbella, in a low Andalusian-style building that follows the slope towards the sea. White lime-washed façades, ochre tile roofs, interior patios with Seville ceramic fountains. The rooms were renovated in phases between 2016 and 2020, contemporary light wood furniture, neutral fabrics, beige marble bathrooms. The scale remains human, 263 rooms spread over four floors, no towers or concrete.

The El Fuerte restaurant offers a classic Mediterranean menu, grilled fish and rice from the coast, service on the terrace facing the gardens. The breakfast buffet is generous, local products correct, freshly squeezed juices, egg station on request. The pool bar serves salads and tapas until 19h, practical with children. Nothing gastronomic, but honest cooking that does the job.

El Fuerte stands on Avenida El Fuerte, between the historic centre of Marbella (10 minutes on foot) and Puerto Banús (4 km). The beach is right in front, the old fishing port 800 metres away, the Golden Mile shops within taxi reach. No metro in Marbella, Málaga airport is 45 minutes by car, paid shuttle on request. The neighbourhood is residential and quiet, a few fish restaurants on the seafront, animation concentrated at the port and in the casco antiguo.
