Ferragamo has transformed a medieval tower into a design manifesto facing the Arno, and it changes everything.
Portrait Firenze - Lungarno Collection

“Penthouse Suite with 80 m² terrace facing the Ponte Vecchio and Duomo, Florence's most beautiful private view.”
The Portrait Firenze occupies a 13th-century tower on the Lungarno Acciaiuoli, owned by the Ferragamo family since 2011. We tested the Junior Suite 405: oak parquet flooring, custom Cassina furniture, Carrara marble bathroom with bathtub facing the windows, direct view of the Ponte Vecchio and Vasari Corridor. The scale is intimate, just 37 rooms, which allows butler-like service without formality. The Caffè dell'Oro on the ground floor serves contemporary Tuscan cuisine by Claudio Mengoni, one Michelin star since 2023. From 2 650 € per night, it's Florence's highest rate, justified by the location and level of finish. Our verdict: it's the city's only design palace that fully embraces its era without pastiching the Renaissance. We recommend for a stay where architecture matters as much as the address ✨
Who is it for?
Who we recommend it to
We recommend the Portrait to travellers seeking contemporary design without renouncing Florentine heritage. It's an address for couples in their thirties and up, anniversaries, marriage proposals facing the Duomo, architecture and gastronomy weekends. Families with teenagers find their place here, but the intimate scale and rate orient towards an adult and discreet clientele.
The building
Architecture and interiors
The Portrait Firenze occupies the Torre Gherardesca, a 13th-century medieval tower restructured in 2011 by architect Michele Bönan. Pietra serena façade preserved, interiors entirely redone: oak parquet flooring, Venetian stucco walls, Carrara marble and travertine bathrooms. Ceiling heights between 3.20 and 4.50 metres depending on the floors. The 37 rooms are all different, some with exposed beams, others with restored 17th-century frescoes. The scale remains residential, no monumental lobby, the lift serves six floors.
At the table

Bar open until midnight, signature cocktails with Ferragamo gin and Tuscan vermouths. 24/7 room service, simplified menu after 11pm.
