“Eleven hectares of botanical gardens in the heart of Florence, with a permaculture kitchen garden supplying the kitchens.”
The Four Seasons Hotel Firenze brings together the Palazzo della Gherardesca (15th C) and the Villa Cora, linked by gardens that Michelangelo is said to have frequented. We bed down in rooms with period frescoes, coffered ceilings, walnut parquet, Carrara marble bathrooms. The outdoor pool (heated, open April-October) overlooks cypresses and heirloom roses, the spa occupies an 18th-century former limonaia. Borgo Pinti remains a fifteen-minute walk from the Duomo, but the scale of the place creates a timeless bubble. Service anticipates without smothering, the clientele is discreet, often American or Middle Eastern. From 3 465 € a night, a rate that reflects the exclusivity of the site and the scarcity of space in Florence ✨
Who is it for?
Who we recommend it to
We recommend the Four Seasons Firenze to travellers seeking space and calm in Florence, away from the tourist bustle of the centre. It's an address for couples on anniversary trips, well-heeled families (connecting rooms, kids' programme), art lovers who want to sleep in authentic Renaissance decor. The clientele is international, discreet, accustomed to grand palaces, often on minimum three-night stays to enjoy the gardens and spa.
The building
Architecture and interiors
The Palazzo della Gherardesca dates to 1472, commissioned by the Della Gherardesca family, enlarged in the 16th century by the Borgherini. The Villa Cora, added in 2008, is a 19th-century neoclassical residence. Preserved interiors: mural frescoes, painted coffered ceilings, pietra serena fireplaces, Venetian terrazzo floors. Rooms measure between 40 and 280 m² (Conventino suite), all different, some with garden views, others on the paved courtyard. Restoration led by architect Pierluigi Piu between 2006 and 2008, preserving original volumes and decor.
At the table
Restaurants, bar, service
Il Palagio serves contemporary Tuscan cuisine under a 16th-century loggia, produce from the hotel's organic kitchen garden (heirloom tomatoes, herbs, citrus). Chef Vito Mollica reworks Florentine classics (ribollita, bistecca) with a modern touch, wine list focused on Tuscany. Breakfast served in the Atrium or on the terrace, buffet and à la carte, cold-pressed juices. Al Fresco offers lunches and dinners by the pool from April to October, lighter menu (salads, grills, pastas). 24/7 room service, full menu available in-room.
